KING FELLOWS
Many of our Maine Seeds are involved in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Fellows (The King Fellows), a non-profit program of the NAACP Portland Branch. The King Fellows is a youth-lead group dedicated to advancing racial and social justice in Maine. Based on the philosophy and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and guided by the principles of our nation’s democracy, young people will develop the critical understanding and leadership skills necessary to champion issues of justice in their schools and community.
The King Fellows is named in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for his legacy as a leader of all people in the fight for freedom, equality, and justice; and his unwavering commitment to building the non-violent Beloved Community in which “the solidarity of the human family” would be realized. The word “Fellows,”which means “a member of a learned society,” is in our name to emphasize our priority on education and dedication to life-long learning for the common good. Participants in The King Fellows are meant to represent the Beloved Community and bring forth the Kingian model for social action.

National honors society
Many of our Maine Seeds have been inducted into the National Honor Society and are actively involved members. The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
model un
Many of our Maine Seeds are involved in Model United Nations, or Model UN, wherein students step into shoes of UN Ambassadors and debate a range of issues on the actual United Nation's agenda. For over 60 years, Model UN has thrived in high schools and colleges and helped develop student interest in global affairs.
Our Seeds have thoroughly enjoyed engaging in Model UN, as it provides them an opportunity to connect to the global community and develop skills to strategize for peace and diplomacy.

Seals-fit
Several of our Seeds have been involved with the Seals-Fit program. Seals-Fit is a seven week, 21 sessions, experience designed to enhance the self-esteem and personal resilience of youth and to empower them to build bridges with other culturally diverse youth in the community at large through an intensive cross-cultural-leadership and physical fitness collaboration with the Seals-Fit training team and the local law enforcement community.
The goal of the Seals-Fit program is to create a model program which instills a sense of accomplishment, self-discipline, self-image, and self respect in culturally diverse youth as well as a more positive image of law enforcement

statewide speech and debate teams
Many of our Maine Seeds are involved in Speech and Debate teams that participate in State-wide tournaments.
The Speech and Debate teams cover different topics that are relevant to the Seeds school and home communities. The Seeds are expected to research topics, write speeches, and develop strategies for debate. At tournaments, the Seeds compete on a state-wide level. We have had several of our Seeds place in tournaments. In addition, some have been asked to attend national speech and debate tournaments.
